“American Gothic” And Gothic Culture

Most of the “goth” has a strong desire to separate with “mediocrity”. They hate all mediocrity, and the mainstream aesthetics and values are increasingly disgusting and disdainful for them.

The American TV drama seems to have set off a dark wave. From “American Gothic” of paying tribute to Gothic culture, to “Outcast” of to attempt the “exorcism” subject by the creators of “The Walking Dead,” “BrainDead” after “The Good Wife,” the decadent “Angel Face Killing Case”: “Sinful,” there is the “death summer camp” with a mysterious dark power to appear: “Dead Of Summer.”

Among them, “American Gothic” uses a unique Gothic cultural charm and connotation, in these black dramas, there is a sad and gorgeous meaning. Gothic culture, a cultural form that is very recognizable in mainstream Western society, has always been controversial. Ellen Poe contribution to the development of Gothic culture is indispensable. And also in his many works, he also sketches a mysterious, slightly strange, full of specific things and the culture of the image. These images include graves, death, gorgeous no-desolation, morning fog. These seem to have all been appeared in the American drama “American Gothic.” The whole drama has been devoted to the details of various Gothic cultures, presenting a low-key tribute.

All the time, there has always been a deep misunderstanding of Gothic culture. Many people hate and dislike “goth” because they behave, behave, and wear strange clothing. This kind of “different” can always cause discomfort to most people. But, as Nancy Kilpatrick said in the “Gothic Bible,” Goth is not so scary and tagging. This horror novelist believes that romance of in the depth of the heart is the Most fundamental symbol of Goth. What is “Goth”? Defining Goth itself is almost impossible. A simple understanding may be a dark art.

As a tribute to all the above, the murder in “American Gothic” is inevitable. But unfortunately, as a US drama that should have absorbed so many essences, the setting of suspense in the drama and the routine of solving puzzles can be said to be second-rate. The characters’ image is also accidentally monotonous.

At the beginning of the 20th century, “Rebecca” of Daphne Du Maurier seemed to open up another style in Gothic culture: a beautiful and magnificent mansion. At the beginning of the novel, except the fragment of a snippet of the shadow of the ex-wife is often seen is creepy. The main scene of this story: Mandala Manor has left a strong impression of glamour, luxury, and ornate. It also laid the foundation for the Gothic Culture praise and fascination for the beautiful and exquisite mansion. The residence of the Hawthorne family in “American Gothic” is the most striking highlight of the whole drama.

Many people’s understanding of Gothic culture seems to end only in “terror”, which is of course superficial. Gothic not only needs gloomy, mysterious, suspense, but the most important element in it is actually romance; and tends to have reservations about the interpretation of supernatural phenomena.
